My Version of the Perfect Date Crate (Valentine's Day or otherwise)
Recently, I was asked by a representative from Man Crates if I would be interested to work on a project they're doing for Valentine's Day. The assignment was to create my very own "Perfect Date" Man Crate. Talk about a fun idea! How could I refuse?
Now, if you've never heard of Man Crates before you seriously need to check them out. They have anything you might need for that special manly man in your life. Their gift kits are amazing and they range from Jerkygrams to a complete poker set "wrapped" a re-purposed ammo crate to the traditional gift set packaged in a wooden crate that has to be pried open with their signature laser engraved crow bar. They even have knife making kits! I mean, what's not to love?
With Valentine's Day just around the corner, I chose focus my crate around what a guy would need to pull off an amazing (but affordable) Valentine's Day date night. I think most guys are pretty good in the self-grooming department... I mean, if they weren't - would we have accepted a date with them in the first place? The area the guys may need the most help in though is the actual planning of the date. What should they do, what should they bring, that sort of thing.
Valentine's Day can be a little nerve wracking, especially if you have those commercially driven ideas about what women want for their Valentine's (like an over-the-top fancy night on the town or diamond jewelry). In all honesty though, I think a lot of women want something much more simple and down to earth than what you tend to see in commercials these days. To test out my theory, I asked a few of my friends what they would want in order to have what they consider to be the perfect Valentine's Day and guess what? Most of the responses had the same theme behind them: time alone with their loved one. That's right guys, all we want is some good, old-fashioned, smart-phone-free, quality time with you!
Worried you're significant other will be peeved if you show up with nothing but a smile? Feel like you need a theme for your date night? Don't worry - I've got you covered. Here are the five items you would need to make your date a night to remember (and its all for under $120.00!).
A Night Under The Stars (My Perfect Date Crate)
1. An Outdoor Blanket
The first thing you need for a perfect night under the stars is, of course, a blanket to lie on. You can use any blanket you have lying around, but I'd recommend having an outdoor blanket (or picnic blanket) for your base. Not only are the traditional plaid picnic blankets super cute, the water resisted backing will make sure you and your date don't end up getting soggy clothes half way through the evening. Grab yourself one with a handle, and it will be easy to carry out with all the other supplies you'll be bringing along. Here's the one I'd include in my Perfect Date Crate: All Purpose Picnic Blanket - Soft Plush Outdoor, Beach, Travel, Camping Fleece Throw Blanket 50x60 Inches (Amazon.com) - $14.99
2. A Few, Good LED Candles
You could use regular candles too but if you use LEDs you don't have to worry about the fire risk - especially when things start going REALLY well and you knock one of the candles over while rolling around on the blanket. ;) Try these from Divine LEDs: Divine LEDs Flickering Romantic Battery Powered Flameless Candles, Set of 6, Yellow (Amazon.com) - $12.97
3. A Set of Pillows
Any set of pillows will do (so feel free to use the pillows you already own) but since this is a date crate I included this cute set: Greendale Home Fashions Indoor/Outdoor Accent Pillows, Salsa, Set of 2 (Amazon.com) - $27.19
4. A Comfy Throw
Make sure your date doesn't get chilly with a cute, soft throw. I love this one from Madison Park! Madison Park Tuscany Quilted Throw, 60 by 72", Ivory (Amazon.com) - $29.74
5. A Bottle To Share
If you already know what sort of drink your date prefers, bring that. Whether its wine, whiskey, champagne or soda - bringing what you already know your date likes shows you care (and you listen). But if you have no clue, and want to keep it really simple, grab one of these First Kiss Gift Wine Set from the Naked Winery (Amazon.com) - $30.00. It comes with wine, two glasses, and a bar of chocolate.
And just like that, you're ready to have an amazing date night. If you need help getting ready before the date though, be sure to check out Man Crate's Clean Shave Crate for $139.99.
Enjoy!
